REMEMBER - THE BATTLE FOR NORTHDOWN HOUSE

Do you remember, back in the summer of 2008, when the beautiful Northdown House was earmarked for sale and development into flats by a previous administration at TDC?

It was an absolute pleasure for Cllr Johnston and I to join Will and Louise Friend in their campaign to protect the property which Will's family had so kindly and historically bequeathed to the people of Margate and Cliftonville.

I was a County Councillor for Margate and Cliftonville at the time and I clearly remember the huge support we received, knocking on doors across the town and getting petitions signed to support its retention in public ownership.

Our campaign was succesful and eventually, after some further rigorous debate, the plans were shelved.

Another victory for local people!
